  • Saturday, February 27:  Middle distance – classic and freestyle
  • Sunday, February 28:  Short distances – classic and freestyle

  • Thursday, March 4:  Long distance classic + Closing ceremony and banquet

-> Friday, March 5 -- Departure back to the USA or onto other adventures in Norway or other European locations

-> Early Notable Notes about the travel plan....

a. This is a super flexible MWC travel year!  Unlike some MWC trips where ground transportation in/out of the actual MWC venue area can be tricky on your own, once you fly into Tromsø it is a mere 10 minutes at most via shuttle bus to any lodging location in the city. Further the AXCS Lodging Package will only use hotels that can adapt to the exact number of nights you select. This means that USA skiers are not in any way restricted to the AXCS suggested travel dates.

b. In October 2026, Icelandair is beginning direct, twice-weekly air service between Reykjavík and Tromsø. This brand new flight option will really make a difference for North American skiers as it will radically shorten the flight time and number of flights for those opting for this option. The Icelandair website doesn't yet have the flights on their long-term search portal, but word from Tromsø tourism officials are that flights the direct flights will be offered on Monday and Friday.

c. Another travel sequence that some USA skiers may prefer is to book two separate flight packages. One sequence in/out of Oslo and the other a simple Oslo-Tromsø-Oslo sequence using one of several Norway-specific airlines with daily flights in/out of Tromsø. This option will work well for folks that know they will be spending some time in Oslo or the lower half of Norway/Sweden before or after the MWC. It also works well for folks that want to break up their international travel into two pieces spending 1-2 nights at one of the many convenient airport hotels near to Oslo Airport (AXCS can offer several recommendations).

What are potential added value options to a MWC2027 trip?

-> MWC2027 organizers are working on a potential idea to move an annual Tromsø ski marathon on nearby trail systems not used for the MWC to the weekend immediately following the MWC2027 closing. This is not a locked-in option, but if it comes about it'll provide another amazing race option for MWC skiers to consider.

-> Oslo, Norway in itself is an amazing travel attraction for many folks and also provides a convenient skiers gateway to pre/post-MWC adventures in places like Lillehammer/Sjusjøen, Beitostolen, etc.. If you can stick around an extra week, the Holmenkollen World Cup Festival (XC, jumping, combined) hits Oslo March 12-14, 2027.

-> The FIS Nordic World Championships will take place in Falun/SWE exactly when the MWC2027 is taking place. So folks that wanted to catch either the beginning, middle, and/or end of the Nordic Worlds could do so via a relatively simple and affordable travel sequence via Stockholm.

-> The Swedish Vasaloppet week (events from Feb 28 - March 7) is also the same week as MWC2027 week which opens open similar early/late extra travel options as the Nordic Worlds.
