Booking Trains To/From Klosters & Zurich Airport (or other Swiss locations)
For trains to/from USA village hotels -- Piz Buin, Seven Alpina, Steinbock, Silvretta -- search for tickets going to/from Zurich Flughafen (that's Zurich Airport) and Klosters Platz (that's the village train station within a short walk of all USA hotels.
For Kessler's Kulm Hotel search for tickets going to/from Zurich Flughafen (that's Zurich Airport) and Davos Wolfgang. It is a 2-3 minute walk from the Wolfgang station platform to Kessler’s.
Note that some train routes (particularly for Kessler's Kulm) will take you into the Davos town core, then require you to hop off and do a short walk over to the side of the station where the local bus picks up. Then it's a super short bus ride back up to Kessler's Kulm (Wolfgang station). This isn't super convenient with lots of heavy bags, but it's ultimately do-able if it's your best ticket.
Train tickets (one way) are pricing under 40 CHF per person this winter.
If you have never taken Swiss trains (or other trains in mountain areas with ski baggage) there are a couple things you should keep in mind:
1.) A big ski bag and big personal bag presents several challenges you want to understand before the trip. The trains do not stop at changes very long. So you need to move quickly on/off the train. Ideally you'll get a seat very close to an exit. Once you are on train change platforms, you also can't mess around because the time between trains is typically pretty short (often as little as 10mins) and you often have to walk 100-200m with up/down stairs or ramps along the way.
2.) It is a really good idea to have at least a rough idea of your route ahead of time so when you are on the train you can keep track of stations. You can find route maps on-line and/or at the main Zurich Airport station.
3.) There is zero need to buy your train tickets weeks or months in advance. For departure from Klosters, it would be advisable to wait to buy until we are there on the trip. For arrival to Zurich, if you 100% know you are taking trains up to Klosters, then buying your tickets a couple days before flights from the USA will probably be fine.
4.) First class is not really needed on the Zurich-Klosters routes except on a busy route at a busy time of day. However, if you don't mind the added expense, the nice thing about first class is that it's usually a bit easier to find seating close to exits and a spot to store your large bags.

Train Transport to Engadin Ski Marathon Events
-> For train travel to the ESM start itself on Sunday, March 9 the Klosters MWC2025 O.C. anticipates being able to provide detailed information on special race morning transportation for all MWC/ESM skiers by late January. Based on what Team USA skiers experienced in 2017, folks should anticipate catching a special train very early on race morning and then being taken to a centralized ESM transport location before a short bus to the actual race start.
-> Post-race at the ESM on Sunday, March 9 the train transport process is super simple. The ESM has an outrageously-organized line system set up to put skiers onto specific train routes directly from the general finish area back to various Swiss destinations. After you finish, you'll get your race bag, change, and then most folks in 2017 just headed straight for the train line-up as you can relax on the train back to Klosters.
-> For other ESM week events including the Night Race on Thursday, March 6 here is what AXCS was told by the MWC2025 organizers:
Direct trains run basically every hour on the hour from Klosters Platz train station in the direction of St. Moritz (traveling time roughly 1h 30min.) For example the start for the night race is in Sils. This can be reached by taking a bus from St. Moritz. The buses run about every 15 minutes in the two hours before the start.
ESM website (Night Race) Engadin Night Race • Arrival on race day information
Note: trains between 4 pm – 6 pm can get more crowded because of commuters and students and especially in the winter season, skiers or other winter sports enthusiasts or tourists in general. However, in mid-March peak season is already over during the week. Weekends can still see crowds depending on the weather and snow conditions.
