WAM-XC is a group of like minded Women And Men who Cross Country ski (thus, WAM-XC). The group grew out of recognition of the importance of Long Slow Distance training in the summer as preparation for cross country skiing and began in March of 2000 following premature snow disappearance. WAM-XC is not associated with any organized training group. Many, but not all, who participate have been associated with the Sisu Skier training program.

We are a non profit group that promotes nordic skiing in and around Gogebic County, which is located in Michigan's upper peninsula near the town of Ironwood. Our location, in the middle of the Lake Superior snow belt called Big Snow Country, provides us with snow that tends to arrive earlier, pile deeper, and last longer than anywhere else in the Midwest! Abundant snow, coupled with the natural rolling terrain in our northern hardwood forest, makes for a wonderful winter experience. So bring your skis or snowshoes and give us a try.
We are an elite development program working with young adults geared towards national and international personal excellence. We also offer a limited number of affiliate programs for athletes past their mid-30s.
