2011 U.S. Masters XC Ski Team Selection
NM2011/MWC2011 in Sovereign Lake, British Columbia -- March 3-11, 2011
The U.S. Masters XC Ski Team is an honorary designation given to the top overall skier in each age category at the conclusion of the annual National Masters event. This aspect of the National Masters has become one of the traditional dimensions to the NM event recognizing the top individual age/gender category performances over the entire NM event.
Even though the 2011 National Masters is fully embedded in the format for the 2011 Masters World Cup (using the exact same individual races), skiers will not really have to make any adjustments in terms of how the U.S. Masters XC Ski Team will ultimately be selected. You do NOT need to fill out any separate form to be included in the Team selection process. USA skiers will NOT be seeded differently or receive any special treatment regardless of U.S. Team standings. This is a competition within the normal guidelines and rules of the Masters World Cup international format.
------
- Points will be awarded per place (using a modified World Cup point system (1st = 25 points; 2nd = 20 pts; 3rd = 15 pts; 4th to 15th = 12-1 points) to the top 15 overall skiers in each age/gender individual category on all race days. Only USA skiers will actually be tracked for the purpose of the U.S. Team, but place against the international skiers in the age/gender category will be counted (for example, a 50 year old male finishing 8th overall in the M5 category 10km freestyle would receive 8th place points (8 points) even if he was the third USA skier in that race.
- Skiers aiming for the U.S. Masters XC Ski Team are REQUIRED to enter and complete all three individual race distances assigned to your age/gender category. This applies to all age groups. The Wednesday, March 9 relay will not factor into U.S. Masters XC Ski Team selection.
- Following the final day of competition (Friday, March 11), total points from the three individual races are added up and the highest total is given the designation as the age/gender category member of that year's U.S. Masters XC Ski Team. All categories with an eligible USA performer will be recognized at the final USA awards ceremony held on Friday afternoon/evening (time TBA, check xcskiworld.com for announcements).
- In the case of a tie in the overall points following the third individual race, the tie-breaker is best overall individual race placings within the age/gender category.
